Happy Lunar New Year

I do not usually write about Chinese New Year as it was something that I did not really care about when I was younger so it never donned on me that it was that important. Now that I am older, it makes a lot of sense why my parents do the things that they do and believe in the things that they do. The communication between generations gets kind of blurry and misunderstandings happen more often than they should. None of the less, I have learned to be more grateful and understanding of where my parents came from and the traditions that they have been raised to follow.

According to astrologer Susan Levitt, the year of the wooden horse is:
"[...] a time of fast victories, unexpected adventure, and surprising romance. It is an excellent year for travel, and the more far away and off the beaten path the better. Energy is high and production is rewarded. Decisive action, not procrastination, brings victory. But you have to act fast in a Horse year. If you are not 100% secure about a decision, then don’t do it. Events move so quickly in a Horse year that you don’t want to gallop off in the wrong direction."
While my traveling has started a week before New Year, I definitely felt rejuvenated in a sense that I appreciate what I have more than I have had in the past. This is definitely a year that will test my patience, my wisdom, and most of all my determination as I plow through my second semester of grad school, launch my online craft store, work on side projects and collaborations, turn 23 years wiser, fall in love again, and be done with one-third of my MFA program.

2014 will be a year of opportunities both quick in decision, some of which will inevitably fail, but will teach me to persevere. It will be a year that will go by fast so any moment worth capturing should always be captured. Live more, laugh more, and enjoy every moment of it. For those who do celebrate the lunar year and for those that do not, I wish onto you a year of never ending happiness, great health, courage, and wisdom. Have a blessed new year!
